What I have been doing since Ive owned pc’s is wiping them after a month to a year. I noticed that over time a PC slows down with updates programs etc. Even with Anti Spyware, Anti Virus, CCleaner, registry cleaners, defragmentors All those tools to help your pc run in tip top shape. I built a gaming PC in august of last year and I have noticed its gotten slower. Its been about a year and I always defrag scan etc with what I mentioned above at least once a week. I am wondering if I wipe it and reinstall will it run faster? Or should I stop doing this lol.

I run CCleaner’s Registry and the file clean, Spybot, Microsoft security essentials, And the built in defrag for windows 7 every week.

You are doing something to make your system slower. Usually it’s visiting dubious web sites and downloading iffy "helper" programs, We have several single task PCs that go online only to receive plain email, and they do not slow down with use.

So stop what you shouldn’t be doing! If you are like most people and don’t know what that is or choose to do it anyway, reinstall periodically as you are now.

I have a a five year old compaq laptop windows xp and im wondering if there are any true "free" registry cleaners out there. Not those ones that say they are free and after scanning your computer you have to subscribe in order to fix those problems and errors. I have looked on the compaq website to see if they offer any free programs supplied by them that work as a registry cleaner, but no luck. My computer has realy decreased in perfmorance lately and i sometimes just want to throw this thing out of my window.

Information on my computer:
I have three antivirus programs on my computer (two of which are outdated). Spy Sweeper (outdated), Norton AnitVirus (outdated), and the free version of Avast Antivirus. I understand that outdated programs are sometimes useless, but i haven’t gotten rid of the two because they still keep programs from loading those sneaky free tools they offer during updates.

I have also recently used a 2G USB flash drive as RAM, which i have set at 1832-1837 mb in the virtual memory/paging file area. When i first did this, my computer’s performance was like new, until now.

Computer Uses:
I use this computer to play world of warcraft most of the time, i know this laptop isnt made for gaming but it has performed well for the past few years. I was always able to play the "maxed out level content" until the wrath of the lich king expansion, now i have issues just running around =P

Computer History:
I have had only one major virus on this computer which required me to start-up my computer on safe mode before i could even open a program. I have only been on porn sites by accident by either miss-spelling a website or "google’n" information for a report which turns out to be a porn site.

I have been in your situation trying to play/load games and i sourced all sorts of free programs i have cc cleaner on my computer and that worked a bit defragging yes, but overall I purchased a program called RegistryEasy and that at the moment is no.1 on the internet for a good recommendable cleaning program, there is a free download on the site mate. I tried going through the processes but it takes ages if you are a bit of a novice like i was and took forever to get the info off of google and disable them. try this program and see how your computer runs after that it optimizes, cleans and just overall does a fantastic job cheers
